Thank you, Priscilla.

Who was the very first Egyptian bellydancer to appear in an Egyptian film? Many people think it was Taheya Carioca. But it wasn't. It was Bamba Kashar, a contemporary of Shafika Al-Qibtiyya who appeared in the very first full length Egyptian film ever made. The film was called Layla and it was a silent movie made in 19...26, directed by actor Stephan Rosti. The film also includes Mary Mansour who owned a famous sala on Mohamed el Din Street and who was one of Badia Masabni's fiercest competitors. Bamba Kashar played the role of Salma in the film Leyla and thus became the first Egyptian bellydancer in history to appear in a movie.
